Got an e-mail yesterday from HPRHS asking me what departments I was interested in? I know it is far from a job offer but at least they're asking. Just a few questions:
How is their New Grad program? How much is the pay/salary? What would be a good unit to start in? Do you like working there?
Reason I'm asking is because I have applied to many other hospitals in NC and all the other ones have e-mailed me that because of their overwhelming amounts of applicants and lack of enough positions, they are not hiring anymore. So why does this hospital still have openings and still hiring New Grads??? Just makes me wonder.
Is there a large Hispanic population there? Maybe they're interested in me because I'm bilingual, but who knows?

my wife recently started working there, she's not a noobie rn though. they offered her below $20 at first, then negotiated above that, so don't expect them to offer much at first.
i wouldn't think hp has a larger spanish speaking population compared to other places n the area.
have u tried the moses cone hospital system, they have tons of rn slots open.
Yup, a few times and I keep getting those e-mails stating that they have over 300 New Grad applicants and not enough positions. Most of those positions must be for "experienced RNs". Again, who knows what Moses Cones want...
Must be the pay that people are running away from for High Point, huh? Means us new grads must make about $18 - $19 there. Any New Grads out there who work for High Point to confirm this?
Thanks for your input though.
i hear and read that some new rn's have probs finding a job. just curious what's ur paid work background (cna, lpn, none, etc...) as it relates to nursing and ed level (diploma, adn or bsn)?
my guess is that those who may have the probs don't have much, if any, paid work exp related to nursing and/or have a diploma or adn.
Worked as a CNA while I went to school and also worked as a LPN for 2 years. I have my ADN-RN degree now. My graduating G.P.A. was a 3.57. I had scholarships for both LPN and RN years including full paid tuition my RN year. I also worked as a Certitified Pharmacy Technician in both retail and hospital/IV pharmacies for 8 years prior to going to nursing school. AND even before that I was a Medical Office Assistant. Not to mention I am also bilingual (English/Spanish).
So can you please tell me what I am doing wrong?

EmilyLucille - You sound like you have a well-rounded background, full of experience and being bilingual is a huge plus! How does your resume look, is it polished and professional?
This is just hearsay, but I heard from someone, who heard from someone, that the new grad hires at HPRHS are required to sign a 3 year contract. Ugh. I can see why they may not be able to hire many newbies.

Funny you should ask about the resume...I actually had it fixed and proofread by a resume specialist at a job fair this past Spring. She spruced it up so that it did sound and look professional.
Wow, 3 years...that is a long time. I also hear that they don't pay well and are not in a good side of town. Again, this is all hearsay as well. Thanks for the info. I'll make sure to look into that if High Point continues to be an option (which may be since they called me on Friday asking if I was still interested and the nurse recruiter said she was going to forward my resume to the Nurse managers of the units). I'll keep everyone updated.
Actually, I think HP seems like a terrific place and I know a bunch of people who have been there a long time - I just haven't heard anything for new hires. As far as "side of town," the only time I ever had the heebie jeebies there was walking out to the visitor parking garage after midnight by myself. It is a very nice and well-respected hospital.
Good luck!

I am applying as a new grad at HP. ( I don't graduate for another few months) I did a rotation there for my CNA certification and I liked the unit and the hospital. The staff was very friendly, very helpful. I liked the documentation system, all by computer. It may be in a slightly rough area, but so are several of the other hospitals in the area. I would prefer to work at WFUBMC but if HP is all I can get I would consider it even if the pay is slightly lower. A 3 year contract, not too sure about that! Let us know what comes of it!

My sister started at HPRHS as a new grad and had a great experience there. We both worked there while we were in nursing school as CNAs and also had good experiences. That was a few years ago and I don't if anything else has changed, but there was an average I guess hispanic population at the time. Anyways, hope this helps and good luck!
