So just wondering if anyone out there works with or is lucky enough to be a super nurse?
By super nurse ofcourse I mean: The super organized, never stressed, never stays late, patients and doctors love them, excellent report skills etc.
This is the nurse I envy and strive to be! Sometimes I don't know how they do it!!
I would love to here your stories and experiences!
Thanks!

Where I work, the nurses who get the awards for Nurse of the Month are the ones who never say no to extra shifts and never say no to staying over. They do not always get their charting done on time, and they are good nurses, but believe me, people who award super nurse status want team players....and they want the team to play by their rules.

I do work with a really amazing nurse. Someday I hope to grow up to be as good as her. She gets everything done, no matter how small, she never skips anything. Her charting is amazing and although we don't share patients I sometimes read her charting just to learn. However she never leaves on time despite her amazing organization skills. It's just not realistic to leave on time with 8 hour shifts in our facility.

When I was a new grad, I was very lucky to orient with one on our home unit...and because of all I learned from her I can handle a lot of pretty tough situations without cracking. Plus her knowledge of detox and recovery is immense--I think I learned more from her and our doctors on the unit than I ever did in the classroom.

I have heard other nurses say this and I do not understand it at all. How can it be just because of 8 hour shifts. Regardless of how long a shift is, there is still that hours' worth of work and that many hours' worth of charting. I don't get it.
