I'm not ready to apply yet...I'm still finishing up pre-reqs, but this is something that's been hanging over my head like a dark cloud. I went to college fresh outta high school for 2.5 years. I was NOT setting the world on fire and I ended up dropping out. I have B's C's and F's on there (at the end I think I just stopped going...chalk it up to no direction, no clue what I was doing with my life and my bf dying.). This transcript is from 08/09ish. I was not in a nursing program or anything, I was doing gen-ed classes. I was 20 then I'm 27 now and taking nursing school pre-reqs. Thus far I have a 4.0 GPA. All of the schools I've looked into transferring to require you submit all post secondary transcripts. I took out financial aid from my old school and also 12 credits from my old transcript transferred (just enough to get me out of doing a couple gen-eds like college algebra and multiple English courses) so there's no question as to whether or not I can get around submitting it. I'm curious to know others' insight and experiences (if any) with similar situations. Thanks in advance for your replies!

This would be a question to pose to advising personnel at any nursing programs that you might be considering. Depending upon their analysis of your situation, you might decide to restructure your priority in applying to School A before School B, or whether you ought to bother applying to School A at all.

I was in the exact same situation, and it did not affect me. 2.0 in my first college stint, 4.0 doing my pre-reqs 15 years later. I was accepted to both of the programs I applied to. But, as caliotter says, you need to check with the schools you're applying to. One program I applied to only looked at courses within the last 10 years to calculate GPA, the other only looked at the courses that specifically applied to the BSN degree.

For my program, they only consider prereq classes as a part of the GPA they consider. So, it really depends on your school

Call the schools you are interested in. The school I'm applying to only looks at the grade of three classes, teas score, and references. I also have some crappy transcripts.

Depends on the school. Some requires you have your classes done recently and others (like mine) only look at your prerequisites for nursing so they disregard student's grades outside of those prerequisites. I'd say look for those types of programs.

A lot of schools are understanding of your past. It's definitely something you'd want to talk about assuming you were granted an interview. I think it's important to show the school that you understand where you went wrong and grew from your past. Definitely talk to the administration at your prospective nursing schools! I think now that you're more mature and have your priorities in check, you will have no problem being accepted.
Thanks to all for the input and advice! Yeah I know it's something I need to speak w. an adviser about...it's just the advising office at my school is a bit of joke. When I get closer to applying I guess I'll just contact the admissions office for the schools I'm looking into and ask! Thanks again!
