Do I need to get started on a Associates Degree before RN pre-reqs?

Hello and thanks for looking at my post.

Im a little confused in how I should do this.

I have not had any college schooling. I did however complete the CNA course (PBSC)

and would like to start on my pre-reqs.

I take care of my sister here in FL she is 12 and I will work as a CNA until she starts driving to get my Pre-reqs done.

While I wait, would it be a good idea to get an Associates Degree? in Arts or Science? That way all the core classes are out of the way? What would you do?

Thanks:confused:

I would first like to get the General stuff out of the way while I wait until my sister turns 16. she's 12 now. I would like to do this before I take Pre-reqs. Is this possible?

lina, it sounds like you need to meet with a counselor at your community college. They will help analyze what fits best in your life between work and taking care of your sister, and your goals down the line. Every school is different depending on the ADN program. You will also need to take placement tests before you start your general education courses. My counselor helps me figure out what classes I need to take and when.

Yes I defiantly agree I need to get my butt up there! I will do this. I did talk to a fellow CNA student and she told me that the counselors tried to push her to take on the AA rather than AS. IDK why. But Thank you all of you!

If you're planning to go to your local community college, you can find a lot of information on-line to find out exactly what classes are necessary both to get into nursing school (which is either competitive or involves a waiting list or lottery system). Our school requires a certain level of math before taking any of the science classes and cell biology before jumping into the Anatomy and Physiology classes. We also need to be at a certain level of English composition. Just the math and English could take awhile. An hour in a counselor or advisors office will be time well spent. For me, I got all of my pre-reqs and co-reqs out of the way before applying for nursing school because nursing school is pretty much a full-time endeavor. You could easily take classes while your sister is in school.
