Dnr

I have a 15 yr old nephew that is in football at his high school and you know how 15 yr old guys are, football is their life. Anyways, he came over to the house today and I noticed that he and his friends had shirts, braclets, necklaces, etc that said DNR... That's it DNR is all it said.

I aked him what it ment and he said it ment defense never rests.. Now being in a mindset of nursing...we all know what we think of when we see DNR.. Dont you think this is dangerous for the young kids to wear? If something happend to one of them and they stopped breathing and someone saw a braclet on them that said DNR that medical person might not perform CPR!! Just a concern I had, what do yall think about this.. Is it dangerous? Should I be concerned or am I over reacting?

Nope I wouldn't worry about it. A bracelet is not a legal form and I do not know of a medic anywhere that would not resus a 15 year old because of it.

Thats good to know.. Thanks

Unless a living breathing relative shoves a signed and legal DNR under a medic's nose, he will try to resuscitate. This goes for minor or geriatric.

I'm sorry, but this reminded me of something funny. In the ER and to EMS, DBF stands for "dead body found". When I first joined a bulletin board and was still learning the abbreviations, the first time I saw someone refer to "my DBF", my eyes literally bugged out!! It was a while before I had the nerve to ask and found it she meant "dear boy friend"!
