Diverticulitis

Published

At the moment I am suffering from a flare up, today is day three. My physician, from previous flares, has simply told me to adjust my diet accordingly & bed rest. Clear liquid diet for about five days. When I have these flares I'm not a very happy camper, it hurts! My question is does anyone know of any medications that are out there to help relieve the spasms? I was reading up on this condition and it said that usually this condition does not come on until 60 and up. I just turned 50 and I began with this about three years ago. Go figure...UGH! Thanks for any imput.

I too suffer from diverticulitis. My last flare-up (2nd) was last January and I was in the hospital on IV antibiotics and pain pills. The physician said usually they do surgery on a 2nd flare-up, but I did not have health insurance, so he told me to watch what I eat and to take really good care of myself.

I don't want another episode, so I am being very careful. Sorry I don't have any information for you.

My 1st episode was one year prior, at the age of 46! I think I may have damaged my colon when I was younger by eating sunflower seeds with the shells still on!

Good luck to both of us!
