Specializes in ER.

can you be more specific about the specific reason for discipline? is it related tp practice issues, or is it something else? i have had a lot of experience with my particular BON r/t drug abuse/diversion, and have a network of other nurses in several states that i can point you towards.

feel free to email or private message me if you don't want to discuss it on a bulletin board, and i will try to give you some appropriate info, links to other sites.

Need a little more specific info on the disciplinary action before I can comment, or anyone else for that matter.

The Board investigation I am involved with concerns documentation errors w/narcotics. I was reported over 1 year ago. I have been contacted once by the BON one time. I spoke with the investigator on the phone in Jan of 03. I hired an attorney familiar with disciplinary action and he says to wait on the findings. He is my representative of record with the Board. They have contacted him twice. but not since May of 03 . Just wondering how much longer I have to wait. Do they have to tell me the findings of the investigation?

How long does it take to get a hearing? When I check the status of my license on the BON web site there is no action against it?

I have been waitiing over 18 months for my hearing, my ex made a false complaint and i received a letter of reprimand (without ever having a hearing). Good luck, Im sorry you too are going through this I know its frustrating, but try to look at it as a good thing , If they were concerned you were a threat to the puplic that they are supposed to protect would they continue to let you practice? and use that to your advantage in your hearing.:kiss

hope this issue is resolved soon .

I believe some state boards vary a little concerning how they go about handling these things but I believe there are also many commonalities. Don't know how long you would have to wait before you heard anything, can be a while. Not sure if there is some sort of statute of limitations or not, might have your lawyer check into that. The record will not show any action against your license until official action has been decided on and that should not occur without a hearing. You should be notified in writing of the charges the board is bringing against you. These charges should be very specific and reference the particular provisions of the nurse practice act in your state. You should also receive notice of your hearing date at that time as well. That is if they decide to have one. Good luck with it.

Narcotic errors are serious business, especially if someone reports your error to the board. My experiences have been this usually does not occur unless there is suspicion of diversion. My experiences are also that state boards of nursing do not play around with this kind of thing and many have a representative from the state attorney general's office present during the hearing to see if there is anything there to warrant criminal charges from the state as well. It can get pretty ugly. Good thing to have an attorney present and representing you. Again, good luck. If you have been diverting drugs, seek treatment immediately for your own good, license or not.

If you were considered to be harmful to yourself or others, they would have done an emergency suspension.

They are letting you practice, so there is hope for some adminisrative repremand or fine or go back to school thing.

Make sure you have all your ducks in a row. No diet medication like metabolife , try to stay off pseudophed, yes I am serious. No poppy sead cake or bagels. Do not take any medication that was not perscribed for you or which the date of your doctor's bottle is a year old or more.

If you get a knock on your door, and it does happen, especially in Florida, you are always ready.

I wish you luck and peace.

Thank you all for the advise. :) I'm glad to have found this message board. everyone is helpful! Thamks again
