Direct Entry Programs- How hard to get in?

Ok, my desk is near a window overlooking my street and I literally just say my mailman walking down the street delivering mail to the houses on the other side of the street!! Aaaagggghhh! The anticipation!

Oh no ... this is torture :angryfire

I just came all the way home to check my mail before leaving ... and it hasn't been delivered yet. Now I have approxiamately 4 mins to wait for the mailman before I will officially be very late. Looks like it will be another weekend of wondering .....

Just called UCSF. The letters went out thursday and friday, with a few on monday. She couldn't tell me my *personal* status over the phone. Wouldn't be right. Call back if I don't get it by next tuesday.

I'll be frank with you all, this was a terrible, terrible week to try to quit smoking.

OK, I just popped home to check the mail. There was a letter from UCSF! But it was a No, so it looks like I start working on other plans for the next year and apply again in the fall. *shrug*

I reckon I'll start this evening off with a :beercuphe

Hi Chris, I'm so sorry to hear that. For myself, even though I didn't expect to get into UCSF, I was still hopeful, and then crushed when I got my letter. It takes a few days to settle down and assess the situation.

Scott Ziehm, the MEPN Dean, will talk to people who didn't get in this year and let them know what they can do to strengthen their apps for next year. You sound like a great applicant and I'm sure you'll make it in. So many people do the second time around. :)

Scott Ziehm, the MEPN Dean, will talk to people who didn't get in this year and let them know what they can do to strengthen their apps for next year. You sound like a great applicant and I'm sure you'll make it in. So many people do the second time around. :)

That is excellent and really says a lot about the program that they are willing to give specific feedback to applicants. It's amazing more schools won't do this- when it would only strengthen the quality of their applicant pool!

My condolences regarding the "No" from UCSF. Whatever it takes to kick back and take it easy, go for it.

It's so darn hard to get into these programs!

I'm starting to wonder what the application to acceptance ratios are for medical school these days. I wonder if the direct entry MSN programs are tougher to get into. :uhoh21: It wouldn't surprise me in the least. Not that any of us necessarily want to go to medical school (more prereqs, more years of school, being doctors, etc), but the point I'm trying to make is that it seems almost absurd that it's so competitive.

I mean we're all intelligent, accomplished, talented people who I imagine feel a calling of sorts to be nurses/clinical nurse specialists/nurse practitioners/nurse midwives, etc.

Go figure...

First-->AAAaaagh!

Second-->Time to write that letter asking them to reconsider, right?

Then lastly, as you said you get another year to work on the supportive classes or pre-reqs or experience and anything else that will be on hold when classes for the program do start.

I hope it works out!! DArn, grumble, mumble, moan.....
