Direct Entry MSN Programs 2013

Anyone on here applying to direct entry MSN programs that begin in summer or fall of 2013? I think I have finalized my list of programs to apply to, and I am beginning to get everything together to start applying this summer/early fall (I know this is rather early, but I'm a bit anxious and I was wondering if there was anyone else on this board who is just as excited as me!). I am pretty certain that I will be applying to UPenn, Yale, Johns Hopkins, Northeastern, University of Massachusetts, Boston College, Columbia, Vanderbilt, and Marquette. I am also applying to a few accelerated BSN programs in my state (Florida) - UCF and UF, for sure. I have all of my prerequisite courses completed, and currently have a 3.76, but my BS is still in progress and I have to retake the GRE this summer. I look forward to hearing from other people!

Meep- I have an update

Case IS rolling. I contacted the director and she let me know that.

Good luck!

Thank you so much for that info! Do you know much about the program? Like how competitive it is? Or if they give any aid to people since its crazy expensive. There's not much buss on here about it.. and its a dnp program right? So its a total of 4 years?

(yes..still checking this forum on a holiday..) Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Anyone applying to UNC? I am tackling their essays and it's pretty lengthy.

I applied to UVA CNL and they also make you write essays. I think they were only 750 words which equates to about 2-3 pages. I struggled for weeks trying to collect my thoughts. I ended up making an outline and then making sure it flowed like a story when applied to paper. I think the most important thing is making sure you answers the questions and not give long winded answers that never directly answer the question.

I feel your pain! Hang in there!! Spend a few days on it. Good Luck!

Thanks Soulshine!

750 words sounds desirable compared to 3 essay questions and max 2 pages each. I doubt I will do two for all three but I could end up with at least 4.5-5 pages and that's the most I will have to write so far.

I should of clarified. It was two essays both at least 750 words. HA! I wish it was just one that would of been a walk in the park:) However, I feel your pain. I can not imagine writing 3 essays! Yikes. Good luck!

I got an interview to Regis College!

Good luck with your interview!

I am new to this forum, but I have been reading all of your posts for the last week and realized that I would benefit from asking a few questions.

I'll just go one question at a time. My most pressing question is how I stand currently. I've submitted most of my applications so far and I KNOW that it depends on the applicant pool which can vary from year to year, but since I don't know ANYONE else applying to programs like me, it's been hard to determine if I've applied to schools way out of my league or maybe haven't challenged myself enough. Here are my stats - I know you all aren't professionals on this, but you seem to have done enough research that I am confident any and all advice would be helpful!

GPA: 3.40 (currently finishing my undergrad in Bioethics)

GRE: 158 in both Verbal and Math

Full-time summer internship in Endoscopy at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital

Currently volunteering at hospice inpatient unit

Spent this past summer and this semester loading on extra classes to finish prerequisites - all As except 1 B+ in HA&PI

I really appreciate any of your thoughts about this or what you think I can do in the meantime to improve my application in the event that I am not accepted somewhere.

Thanks!

I think the most important question is, where are you applying to? I think that your stats are fine! It's hard to determine though, because some schools are looking for a lot of volunteer work and/or clinical experience whereas some other schools seem to be pretty stats oriented (Boston College comes to mind for some reason, they seem to really place a big emphasis on the GRE and have a higher than normal GRE average). What stands out on your application? Did you have a good story for your personal statement?
