Dilemma

Does your school give incompletes? For my nursing program, you could always drop out in the middle of the semster (for whatever reason:family, failing, etc) and you would get an incomplete. So then you could retake the semester for free.

Then, you will have gotten halfway through the toughest semester, and received the clinical time.

Also, in my program, the last semester is only 10 weeks of theory. Then it's 6 weeks of preceptorship. Is this how your program is?

We have two pregnant girls in my class. One of them was due in October and should've been able to complete the classroom portion of block 2. I'm in a program that does all classroom/lecture work first then finals then clinicals. She ended up going into labor 5 weeks early so she missed the last two or three weeks of lecture. She also completely missed clinicals. I'm pretty sure they're allowing her to make up her tests and then she'll just have to retake block 2 process and do the clinicals next semester. She she essentially is repeating the semester, but just the class that she missed (which was clinicals). The other girl is due on our last day of school, Dec 9th. She's managed to make it this far as far as I know, and the instructors have said that they'll work with her if she misses her last week or two of clinicals. I think she's planning on sitting out next semester, and then taking block 3 next fall. Our school has been pretty great in working with them from what I've seen. They had originally told the first girl that she could get her clinicals out of the way early, while we were in lecture, but I think they couldn't fit her in anywhere. It seems like they really try to work something out. Good luck with everything!!

Does anyone know how hard it is to get into a block 4 (anywhere!) if you have to exit out at the end of block 3?

I'm pregnant and due at the end of march/beginning of april. We graduate May 11. Puts me in this huge dilemma of wondering if I should continue and hopefully get through those last few weeks, or if I should drop and not risk it. The big risk is that I'd have to drop when I only have a few weeks left and all that time/money is wasted. Right now I seem to be getting the run around from our program director on what to do. I think she is more in the mode of "you can finish, don't worry." Easier said than done IMO!

Right now I'm just not getting any answers from her if I'm going to possibly be able to start some of the preceptorship early or be able to finish a little late if there is any reason in there I miss a week or two (which is highly possible). I'm not sure if they are going to bend at all (kind of upsets me off since they seem to be able to bend for other people) and that could potentially mean I may end up flunking due to that last month! The thought of it makes me so sad.

I really don't know what to do. Mostly I'm wondering how hard it is to enter into block 4 at any maricopa college?

But also any advice into my situation, or stories for people who've been there, done that would be appreciated.

When I was doing block 4 at Glendale, 3 people had transferred from Phx College for block 4. One flunked block 4 at PC so retook it at Glendale and the other two just didn't like PC and transferred.

Also, due to scheduling problems, it took about 6 weeks for everyone to complete their preceptorships in block 4. What date are you done with class and have your preceptorship? That is the REAL date you have to worry about.

I know at Glendale they can be flexible about when you take finals. My mother died a few days before finals......I was given the opportunity to postpone finals if I wanted. I just wanted to get them over with so took them when scheduled.

Not sure about the incompletes. Hmmmm.... if other nursing programs within the district do then I bet we would fall under that at Estrella. I'll have to find out.

Our preceptorship is 3 weeks long. I think it's the 2nd or 3rd week of april they start. I have a tentative schedule for next block so I'm trying to work out a plan in writing to go to the director with and see if she'll just okay it for me. She is such a nice person, I know she means well and wants to help me. Lets just hope she can!

We finish up class and start finals literally right around the time I am expected to deliver (march 29 is my due date). And then will start the preceptorship I think it's the 2nd week of April.

i am so stressed out about the "what if's" regarding all of this. I do want to push and push to get this done and not give up. I just have that "what if I flunk out" looming over my head and then I'd have to do all this over again, not to mention pay for it again, plus I'd have a baby. It's easier to get all this done while baby is INSIDE me, .
