Differences in HR application processes

I keep an sharp eye on the job boards and also have applied for some jobs lately. I've noticed a distinct difference in job application processes.

I applied for one job at a nursing home. I haven't worked LTC for a long time, but considered seeing what was available at a very nearby nrg home, so I stopped by there. I talked to the DNS who informed me that the only way to apply was to go to the corporate site. A nursing home chain had acquired this place. Put in an application, lengthy several weeks went by.

I don't like the whole corporate, you've got to apply on a vast site approach. And, by the time they got back to me, I already had an offer from a small hospital.

Speaking of that small hospital, they have a great approach. I did a minimalist online application that didn't take the whole afternoon. There were only a few mandatory prompts. Then, they called me on the phone, I spoke face to face, it was very human and personal. I got that job.

Meanwhile, the first job I applied to was a non-online application. I sent them an email requesting an application, sorry, I don't maintain a printer. They sent it, I sent it back. I have an interview scheduled, but meanwhile the phone-friendly hospital already corralled me in. They sound good, but a little slow in getting back to me.

I checked out, during this time, a VA job. Very complicated, federal government site. You have to create a profile, input a ton of info, it was overly complicated.

Some HR's are considerate, others are a little rude and impersonal.

I have found that with my recent search, companies are adding a logic test to the application process.

Like "A logical conclusion is that a company with a difficult application process might be difficult in other ways" ? ;)

More like, if Tom arrives first, Sally arrives after Dick, and Dick is never later than Tom, how many cats ran past them at noon. Stupid stupid stuff
