What's the difeeence in an LPN and a RN?

Featured Replies

It really depends on your state board of nursing and the particular facility of which you are employed. Generally, LPN's don't hang blood products. For the list of what can and can't be done, contact your state board of nursing (each state is different) or do a search though these threads. (there are several answers to this question :) )

Additionally, LPNs aren't legally allowed to do a patient's initial assessment. They are, however, allowed to gather information and assist the RN with the initial assessment. LPNs are allowed to do all other assessments that don't involve that initial assessment.

Each state has a different LPN/LVN scope of practice. For example, Oklahoma LPNs are allowed to pronounce death, whereas Texas does not allow the LVN to pronounce death (only the RN).

AND 'bout $10/hour more where I work. Which is why I am going to bed so I can go to class tomorrow. I am proud of my LVN and don't regret any of my experiences ove the last 16 years but f I could do it over again, I would definately go the RN route first. ;)
