Difference between Nursing levels (eg. NUM lvl 2 and NUM lvl3)

World Australia

Published

Hi everyone,

I'm having a bit of a hard time understanding the different nursing levels and grades in Australia. I think that the different RN levels are simply based on expeience in years but have not found much to confirm this.

Also what's the difference in NUM levels? Is it simply experience based or is there some additional exams to pass?

Any help or clarity would be really appreciated!

Even though there is national registration, nursing awards - pay is through each state and is different.

If you surf through the nursing website for the state, usually there is an explaination of what each level requires in competence.

NUM- Nurse unit manager, usually depends on how big the ward is and how big the hospital is and how experience and/or post grad degrees you have to qualify for it.

Specializes in Surgical, quality,management.

what state are you talking about?

there are variances in grading depending on the state.
