Dicouraged with the profession.

HI, I'm just looking for some feedback. I have been in nursing for 28 years and I think I'm burned out. I have been an advanced practice RN for the past 15 plus years and I think this is what caused me to burn out. I am looking for a new career that would allow me to use all of my nursing skills. I'm done with dealing with patients, families, politics, etc.

Any suggestions?? Anyone?? I'm very discouraged!

Well you are a nurse that's been there done that, so ask yourself if you've been exposed to anything healthcare related that you possibly see yourself doing. Maybe it is time for something new or maybe it's time to explore a very different but RN related position. I think you should start by finding out what you like to do period. Be empowered and keep your spirits high!

Best of Luck Fellow Nurse!

Case management/utilization review/ with local or national companies.

Thanks for your advice All4nursingRN. I have been thinking about what it is I like to do. I like looking into and researching things. I also like helping people, that's why I became a nurse so many ears ago. I am considering getting into legal nurse consulting. It will allow me to use the knowledge I have in medicine and nursing. I think it would be a rewarding job. I really think I need a new direction/change in my career. I've also thought of case management/disease case manager but the pay is not that great.

Thanks for the encouragement!

Hi,

I have been considering case management but from what I've researched on line, the pay doesn't seem that great. I am presently making a 6 figure salary. I know I will have to take a pay cut, and I'm willing to do that but within reason. Do you know if the insurance companies/third party billers typically pay more for RN case management/disease management positions than hospitals or other healthcare organizations pay ?? The other thing I am very interested in is becoming a legal nurse consultant for defense attorneys or an expert witness.

Thanks for your advice.
