Diabetes?

You need to make an appointment with her pediatrician and discuss your concerns. If nothing's wrong, you mind will be at rest and if something's wrong, you can take care of it. This is the only course of action you should consider, IMHO!

My heart goes out to you and your worry for your child. I know you don't want to take her to the doctor, but you must. My son is diabetic. He was drinking almost constantly and voiding quite frequently - about every 20 to 30 minutes. I did not want to think it was diabetes, even though I knew it could be. He was also more irritable and not gaining weight adequately. I took him to his doctor and they did a dip and it showed ketones. So, off to the hospital we went. It was the day before his 7th birthday! He had been symptomatic for two days. Luckily, he didn't go into DKA. I was in such denial! I attributed his thirst to his recent upper respiratory infection, along with his irritability. His teacher thought he was ADHD and needed meds, because he wasn't concentrating and was irritable and always getting up to the bathroom. My point is, get your child checked out ASAP just to be sure. If it is diabetes, you could be putting her in further jeopardy by waiting. I also do not have diabetes in my family, nor does my ex-husband.

If you think something is wrong...get her in to her doctor ASAP. She may well be afraid of doctors, but it's better to deal with a crying kid than with one who slips into DKA.

I had horrible asthma as a kid, and I was hospitalized when I was five, which was really traumatic to me. As a result I was hospital phobic for a long time. A child might not understand at the time and be frightened, but as they grow they gain the understanding. I was a young kid with a chronic illness, and I think I adapted to it better than my parents did. Kids are really resilient and sometimes more adaptable that we adults are.
