Depth Perception for Air Force

Published

I hate to be asking so many questions, but I have another one for you all....I took an enlisted physical back in January and failed the depth perception test at MEPS even though I'm pretty sure I have normal depth perception. At some point, if I'm able to get in the Air Force, I would like to become a flight nurse. I know that flight nurses require a class III flying physical, but as far as depth perception goes the only thing I can find out is that it depends on the AFSC....some require normal depth perception others do not. Does anyone know if flight nursing requires normal depth perception? If so, will my previous failure of that test at MEPS keep me from being a flight nurse, or can I retake it or get a different test done? Thank you for any help you can provide.

You will have to take a new physical if you go in the AF. When you apply for flight status you will take a physical at that time.

I failed the one at MEPS too, because it was from the 70's. Went to the optometrist and found out I was fine, the MEPS test sucked.

Passed the flight physical one with no problem. You will be fine.

I failed the depth test on the first try. I was given some custom lenses by the optometrist and passed on the second try. I have good vision but a slight astigmatism. They are allowed to correct your vision for the test which might make a difference.

Thank you all for your answers! I will have to go to an optometrist before I try the test again...it makes me feel better knowing that I'm not the only one out there who had trouble with that test.

I just did my MEPS on July 5th. I found the trick to the depth perception was to kind of cross your eyes a bit (like you do when looking at those crazy pictures that have hidden shapes that pop out) when i did that all of the little o's popped right off the slide and i got every one of them correct. was very obvious at that point

Thanks for the tip! I will definitely have to try that if I get to retake the test!
