I just found out today I got denied from the BSN program at cal state channel Islands I applied for. My question is what to do next? I have a decent GPA of 3.53 and TEAS test score of 78.1%. I realize I am young and have time, at 19, but I am paying my own way through college and want to complete school in 4 years. If I wait to apply next fall it will take me 5 years total. I was thinking of transferring to 2 year nursing programs in either California, Oregon, or Nevada but don't know of any specifically. Any suggestions, besides raising my GPA...what is considered competitive? Is any one else in this situation? Thanks

Sorry to hear that you got denied, but everything happens for a reason. Perhaps, b/c your GPa is pretty decent, maybe you want to re take your TEAs ? See if you cant score higher on that, and maybe that would help. Dont rush along, as much as you want to complete in four years for your bachelors, life does get in the way. If you want to do a two year program for the sake of being done faster, but want to get a bachelors anyway, youre still looking at a bare MINIMUM of four years, more than likely closer to five. But I would suggest re taking your TEAs and see if you cant score higher. Good luck!

Try to stick with the BSN program. I would take the entrance exam over. Where I'm from, the two year program are a lot harder to get in to because of the number of applicants and the number of students they accept. Since you are young, you really will benefit more in the future if you stick with the BSN. I think you will later regret it if you don't.

I am really sorry to hear that the door did not open for you. I can tell you honestly that I know how you feel. I have been denied for 3 semesters now and I have gotten back in the saddle and applied again this semester for the 4th time. It doesn't get any easier each time however I can tell you that staying persistent and not giving up is important to your success.
In your situation I would apply to the CC's because most of them are lottery (so they say) and you still have a wonderful chance of being accepted. Here in my area the application deadline is April 15th. You still have time to apply for fall 08. You can check on the local schools by going to their website. Getting in is the hard part here in CA because of the overflow of applicants, however they have to let someone in and if you want it, you have to get your name in there.
ADN may be second choice but you can always do a bridge program and get the BSN easily afterwards.
I would also recommend that you re-take the TEAS for a better score. I found that I did much better the second time I took it and with your GPA and a score of 85%+ you will be much higher on the list for the BSN.
I wish you the best of luck and don't give up, your hard work will pay off.

I would definitely echo the sentiments of those who suggest taking the TEAS again. With your GPA, I'm sure you can pull a better score and you'll be much more likely to gain entrance into whatever school you want to attend! Best of luck!

I am sorry you didn't get in this time, Katie07. How disappointing. Retake the TEAS! Also, you might want to go ahead and apply to as many ADN programs as possible, get on any waitlists if they have them and put your name in the hat for any lotteries. Then take whatever comes up first. If you get into an ADN you can bridge to BSN and work at the same time. I hear it is pretty common to have to apply more than once and to several schools, so try not to be too discouraged. Good luck.
