they have a new branch of that program in slidell. i don't know if you live in new orleans or what, but the number to the slidell branch is 985-643-7730. the day program will run 15 months, and the night program 24. these are the start dates for the on in baton rouge though, one just started yesterday, and the next one is in july:
2005 lpn program start dates
january 24, 2005 lpn day school
january 31, 2005 lpn night school
april 25, 2005 lpn day school
july 25, 2005 lpn day school
august 8, 2005 lpn night school
october 17, 2005 lpn day school
Are you attending this school? Im scared to get into this program because I spoke to a nursing recruiter and she said they are reluctant to hire from the school because "they dont know what type of product they will produce"....
What is an average starting pay for this area?
No, I don't go there neither do I plan on it. As for Lpn schools, well from what I know atlest if you plan on working somewhere like LTC it really doesn't matter what school you wnet to. Now a hospital may be different, but I am not sure. For me I plan on working in LTC for a year, in acute and skilled. Hopefully that will get me prepared for a hospital. So if you go that route you will have already proven yourself. Pay for areas like Slidell, Baton Rouge, and Covington, I think are usually higher thatn New Orleans depending on your field. But it all ranges from 12-20 in LTC, and hospitals , and 19-35 in agency. That is for new grads atleast.
Yes, from what I have been told by nursing recruiters, hospitals care where you went to school. I had a meeting with Delta today, and they said they couldnt promise that thier program would be honored at another school if I wanted to do LPN-Rn....
Im not going there either!!!
(plus tuition is $13,000!)

be real careful about programs like this..i know a school opened in alexandria [computer school not nursing] and the sudents sighned a bunch of papers assigning loans to the school and when the school closed the students had to pay for the loans...very little was taught..and it put some of them where they couldn't borrow money to go to LSU
That may be true, but that is why we have a BON. Since they have to apply and their program has to be approved by the BON, they are at least meeting their minimal standards.

someone i know who graduated from delta in covington less than a year ago works at Gulf tates LTAC in Cov. and makes $45/hr. I think Delta graduates must turn out at least ok!
Oh wow, $45 an hour!? How can an lpn make that kind of money? Since I first posted this message, I started the rn program at Charity (only to realize nursing isnt for me!) Anyways, RN starts at $21/hr in Cov.
