Decorating the Clinic

So we are in between prime summer time and fall,,,any suggestions on clinic decorations? We just took down the summer/beach-y decorations and now need something to tide us over until we get to the real autumn stuff. Any ideas? We like the things that hang from the ceiling, plastic cut-outs on the walls, etc. But what is our theme going to be? Help!

I was thinking about gettting a diet theme going on, which is good all year round. This months education was on potassium, so maybe we could do something along that area. Down with phosphorus, that kind of thing? Hang large colorful lists on the walls by the entrance that have good vs. bad food choices.

This is the time of the year I always decorate my house with a potassium/phosphorous theme, LOL.

Potential August themes: stars (meteor showers are big in August); blooming flowers--the summer kind, not spring; camping--tents and pine trees, etc. Or there's always the potassium idea :).

I liked your use of the term "tide" with the beach theme, LOL.

ha! i love playing with words, but the "tide" wasn't intentional. Muy observant!

And yes, my apartment is decorated up for potassium/phosphorus season! (not really)

Someone suggested football/cheer/tailgating type theme. I love it, even though it's a little early. Once football season starts, I'm all for having Sports Day and making sure everyone wears their favorite team! We can do "cheer" type banners and pom-poms and stars and goal posts (we can do a big wall mural with the football flying through the air with a big K on it and 3.5-5.5 somewhere and going toward the goal posts.)

Ooh, brainstorming. So, do you think it;s too early for that? We're kind of on holiday hiatus right now. I can see getting by with autumn stuff in September, but not July.:nono:

August kind of covers all kinds of sports--except maybe basketball, LOL. My husband and boys spend all kinds of time watching football and baseball in August--except when their mean wife/mom gets after them to help around the house a bit :). Hey, what about a race to the pennant theme? You could always toss out (hah, there's one for me) how much sodium is in hot dogs, popcorn, etc.

I love the way you think; not everyone is aware of the true sporty nature of potassium :D. You realize that now every time I hear a football score above 5, the issues of hyperkalemia are going to spring right to mind....

Back to school stuff to reminisce high school and college. May even have some course material on hand for any patients who want to take a computer or telecourse. Anything that enriches and encourages a dialysis pt. to do what can be done. Do you have teen patients?

Also feature foods that dialysis pts. are able to have, with recipes. Maybe you already do that, but to have it on the School Lunch Menu printed on a poster would be cool?

Psalm what a cute idea! I like it! We have no teens anymore (transplanted) but we do have former school workers. That is good thinking, lunch menus, back to school, pep rallies, nutrition class, etc. awesome! Websites to point them to good recipes.

Makes the cheer, "Go Team Go" a whole new meaning!

Or the Class Whiz? LOL!

I like the "back to school" theme idea, too. Neat!

One thing that our clinic has done as far as decorations is not necessary focused on a theme. We have the ceiling tiles painted with pictures that were painted by some of our talented patients, as well as by some of the local high-school art students. The painted ceiling tiles are then placed mainly above the patients chairs. So, when the patients are lying back in their chairs getting their tx's, they can look at the paintings on the ceilings. So many people have complimented our clinic on this clever idea.

wow that sounds so cool!

Ok, so everyone wanna know what's horrible? Here we are, one month since I started this thread, and still no decorations in the clinic. I don't know about everyone else, but I have been so busy lately! Like there is this buzz in the air (of unknown origin). Every day you think will be a normal, uneventful one. But then every day something crazy happens, then something else, then something else and before you know, it's 3:45 and you're disconnecting the last pt for the day.

Perhaps it's the beginning of the changing of the seasons?
