A couple of questions for whomever can help:

I've seen several comments about quick turnaround times (days) for DEA #s, has that been the case for anyone?

Can I expect the number via email prior to receiving it via US Mail?

I don't think there's an easy email option. Probably a security issue. You'll likely get it within a week of submitting your renewal online.

If you already have a DEA number you can renew online and within a day or two log onto the secure system and download your certificate (usually). I also applied initially online and was able to download the certificate within a few days.

I literally applied on a Friday morning and had a number by the following Monday afternoon. Then again, I heard that during busy times it can take a couple of weeks. And I was able to get it online (I think via email) before it was mailed to me - yes.

The DEA sends the number to your employer via US mail. In my case, the licensing guy at my practice went on vacation and did not tell me it had arrived. I called the DEA and they would not give it to me over the phone. I had to wait for the licensing guy to get back from vacation and read it from the letter. I am unaware of any email option. The turnaround was 3-4 days.

They actually mailed it to my house.

I remember getting the number the very next day. I received the certificate in the mail the next week.
