Dcccd 2006

Anybody thinking about El Centro/ Northlake in the DCCCD for Jan 2006?

Yesterday we had a lec. and lab. test on endocrine system and blood. It was terrible. It was harder than the nervous system test. We talked to our instructor after the test and went through all the questions later. (:bowingpur Begging for an A.)

Since we haven't learnt any new material yesterday there is nothing to study for the next A&P class. It's weird.

Now I have time to read more. I decided to look for some nursing books in NLC library and I found some pharmacology and dosage calculations books. I chose two books from the Incredibly Easy series. I just want to take a look to see what's coming...

:nurse:Hopefully.

LOL! I know, especially now that we have under 30 days!!!! So much for taking other classes to get my mind off of it. .....didn't work! :rotfl:

Hey All!

I'll be starting El Centro with my Pre-req classes in Jan. I'll be taking Math, Psych and A/P. I'm a bit initmidated by my decision to go back to school though but I've done my research and I really want to do this. I'm 35 with 3 children (7,4,3) and my 4 year old has a rare genetic syndrom with mental/physical disabilities. She is the reason for my desire to become a nurse. I've been in and out of the hospital soooo much for the last 4 years with her that I already feel like a nurse..LOL. My hubby works and I know that before the actual nursing portion starts I will have to find a sitter for my disabled daughter but I will cross that bridge next Fall.

I haven't attended college for over 10 years so it will be an eye opener for me, I'm sure.

Anyways...just introducing myself and good luck to all of you!

Michelle

Michelle, Congrats on going back!

If you don't mind, what genetic disorder does she have? My daughter also has a genetic disorder.

alotascruggs, welcome to allnurses.com! :)

I wish you all the best in your decision to go back to school. If you are like me, you will find going back after so long will only make your desire to do well be even stronger than it would have before.

I completely understand about the strong need to be a nurse from your own experiences. I have had 18 surgeries, and I feel that has drawn me closer to the medical field.

Good luck! :)

Thanks for the welcome!

My daughter has Cornelia deLange Syndrome (CDLS). She was diagnosed at birth by sight since, at the time, there wasn't a genetic marker for her syndrom. They have one now though.

I am glad I'm not the only one counting the days until my notification letter arrives. Has anyone heard anything about being notified prior to Oct. 15th. A friend of mine applied to DCCCD's LVN program and was notified in 2 weeks. I know this is totally different program, but I was hoping we'd find out before October 15th! I am so afraid I won't make it.

Also, I saw all the info on the GPA cut-off for last application filing period, but does anyone know how may people were accepted? If I remember correctly, in the application packet it said from 40 to 70.

I made El Centro my first choice and NLC second. El Centro is closer to me but I am not looking forward to the parking. Right now I am attending Eastfield.

I appreciate all the good information.

Thank you for sharing! ((hugs)) Does your child go to PPCD? My DD (she's 3) goes to PPCD twice a week.

NurseSomeday, I know what you mean! I'm DYING to find out. I've even had dreams about it! LOL

Hi NurseSomeday! :) Welcome to Allnurses.com, and our anxious lil', happy letter-waitin' thread! :chuckle

ECC & NLC together accept 110 students each semester. 70 at ECC/40 at NLC.

As you said you've seen already, for the last two semesters, the cut off was 3.77. This past one was 3.77 with 11 support credits finished.

It is definitely harder to get into NLC than ECC b/c of the amount of seats accepted.

If you go through this thread, you will see someone talking about parking at a different part & riding the DART to the school. (Which if you go to ECC, you get a free DART pass.)

I hope they send they happy letters out soon!!!! I getting so impatient! :chuckle

Good luck with your education, good luck getting in ECC, and if I don't get into NLC like I want, I hope to meet you in person in Nursing class at ECC in the Spring! :)
