DCCCD Nursing Program

Published

Has anyone had any problem getting into the Nursing programs within the Dallas County Community College District?

If so, did you have all A's? Just wondering how hard it is, and if I will need to retake classes to make higher grades.

I had a newborn, and was young and stupid when I first started college. lol

I have mostly B's, but have taken, I think, around 35 credit hours already.

I was wondering the same thing. I am submitting my application in Jan. Right now I am taking A&P 1 and micro.

I did repeat the 4 pre-req classes for A's. I was scared that I would not get in without a 4.0. The lady I spoke with told me that there were 600 applications, and the cut off gpa was 3.7, so maybe if you just took one class over for an A that would work.

Anyway, good luck, hopefully we will both be there!

Good luck bebenurse!

Luckily, the scholarship I received is for the full load.....so I can retake the prereq's with the scholarship award monies! :)

I figure it will take a while to get in, so I'll have time to take the prereq's over again :rotfl:

Hey there! I am also trying to get into the nursing program. Sounds like we have something in common. All my pre reqs are done, including my core courses. But, I took them when I was young and stupid, and I didn't take school seriously.

So, anyway, I'm taking A&P over again. From what I have heard, it is very competitive to get in. And, I have heard that people with all A's in the pre req courses have been turned down.

After hearing this, I am going to take English 1301 again as well (made a C)

Good Luck, TXMOM!

I know one person that has all A's. She was accepted with first try. So, I'm not sure how hard it will be with all A's.

I just hope our minds haven't given out.....already used the young and stupid excuse! :rotfl:

Specializes in ER, CCU, LTAC.

FYI....

I am also applying to DCCCD but you might want to look into some other schools aroung the DFW Metroplex like Tarrantr County, Collin County and Weatherford as a Plan B!

P.S.

The friends I have already in the program had A's in A&P I, and 2 classes out of the other three pre-reqs. You have to have an A in A&P I or you won't have a 3.7, also the tie breaker is the Support courses!

I will definately look into other schools as well, but the scholarship I received was based on DCCCD's indistrict tuition. So, anywhere else I go would be an out of pocket expense for the difference. (Which would be much better than the total cost.)

I will be taking A&P class over again come January. No matter the grade I made on that, it was over 10 years ago. lol

I know I can do the Nursing, as I loved working as a Medical Assistant. However, I guess I lack book smarts....well, at least with children not allowing me to study as much as I should have. lol

I think I can do it now, with the children in school, and my husband home at night to keep them away.

Good luck to everyone just starting out! :)

You can do it.... even with children. My daughter is 8 months. and when I started retaking the courses this summer she was only 3 months. A person gave me some good advice, she said if you want it bad enough you will make it happen. So when I get discouraged i just remember that. Shoot for the 4.0, take it one class at a time if you have to. Maymester and summer school help you to get there faster. Apply everywhere is good advice, you never know!! I recently had a friend that had not finished all her pre reqs apply and get in!!

Thanks so much for this bebenurse! This is really an inspiration...I can't wait until January to get started!!!!

I'll definately be going to summer classes. I'd rather take A&P and microbiology without any nursing courses and clinicals added to it. ;)
