So I have 2 FT tentative job offers. One with Walter Reed and one with DC VAMC. Med/surg offer for WR and ICU offer for VA. I presently work in the ICU. I know it's hard to get into both of these places and am very grateful to be in this predicament. Does anyone have any experience working at either of these facilities? I'm even hoping to work PRN at one and FT at the other. I will also be new to the area coming from the sweet south. Lol

I am not sure which one would be best for you but you will only to be able to work at one of them. When you work for the one Federal government agency you can not work part time/PRN for another Federal government agency
Thanks. I figured that. Maybe I'll pick up a PRN at a local hospital somewhere.

It's a tough call! I would consider things like commute time, location, pay, benefits. And do you want med/surg or would you rather remain in the ICU? Is anyone paying you relocation benefits?
The traffic in DC is no joke, even if you are coming from major metro areas in the sweet south; DC is the second worst behind Los Angeles, so living and working near a metro stop can be a huge benefit. Speaking of cost of living, you are likely in for some sticker shock where cost of living/housing is concerned. I am sure you have already looked into it, but you'll probably save money living on the Maryland side.
You might have to wait for a firm offer from either/both to make a decision. I have known people whose actual offers were canceled at the last minute due to budget or hiring freezes.
Absolutely a great predicament! Keep us posted. :)
Thanks for the info. Yeah I'm familiar with them canceling due to budget. I work a VA now. I just really want to know about these facilities in particular. What is it like working there.

I think it would be cool to work at WR as a civilian. Then again is it is M/S. Maybe the pay at WR would be more since the budget is DOD and not VA?
So I've decided to do pre-employment work-up for both jobs then decide when I get an actual final offer what I will do.
depending on how fast they work there could be a gap between the 2 offers.
