CSULA ABSN

Published

To those who are currently in the CSULA ABSN program, I have a bajillion questions.

  • Can you tell me what your stats were to be admitted?
  • How is your experience in the program thus far? How are the professors? Is the program fairly well structured & organized?
  • What's the demographic of the students in the ABSN? And what's the average age?
  • Can you find reasonably affordable rooms for rent near campus? How much should one save for the cost of living expenses (including rent)?
  • I can't honestly see myself in Los Angeles. But I suspect I'll barely have any free time while in an ABSN program. Regardless, what is it like living in LA?

I am currently in the program and they are switching from quarters to semesters currently so it seems a bit disorganized. The lecture professors are okay. I think I am learning a lot and the classes are geared to passing the NCLEX. I think there was a 100% pass rate for the previous cohort. The clinical instructors I've had were great and my clinical experiences have been at well-known hospitals in the area like Huntington Hospital, LA County-USC, and Kaiser.

The students in my cohort are fairly young, 1-3 years out college to up to 10-15 years out of college so it varies. The previous cohorts have had people with children. I don't think its an issue... everyone gets along!

I do not know about how affordable rooms for rent are near campus, but Alhambra and Monterey Park are where my classmates live.

I lived in LA my whole life so I enjoy it. There is a lot of traffic and you will need a car to get to your clinical sites, some are up to an hour away with traffic.

let me know if you have any other questions!

Thank you for that thorough answer jpangs!

Does their changing from a quarter to semester system still mean that the ABSN can be completed in 15 months? Also, what's the total cost of the program without the cost of living? Is $32,000 as quoted on their site (including books, and all) about accurate?

The lecture professors are only OK? And yes, that's why I hesitate to enter any program in LA (the traffic).

so sorry for the late response. I didn't get any notifications about this post. Yes 32,000 without cost of living is about

right. There are other costs like parking permits for hospitals and live scans that aren't included. Yes there are some really bad professors and some good professors. I came from a UC so I'm used to bad professors haha. They weren't that different.
