CSULA 2015 ABSN Program

It was my understanding that in order to continue on to the masters program after the absn we just need to pass the nclex and maintain a 3.0. If we have to "apply" to the masters portion, is there a chance we may be denied? I applied to this program in order to get a masters degree, not to stop at the bsn!

I had the same impression. I don't think we need to reapply.

BTW has anyone received any updates? Is it me or does it seem like this process is very slow, unless of course we're just not posting much lol. Does anyone know when the last day for interviews is? I still haven't heard anything

Your applying for your preference, like FNP, ACNP, psych or ANP. We haven't even registered to take the NCLEX yet and we will start the master's portion in September but might not be even taking the NCLEX until November or possibly later, I am not sure. So you start the master's before taking the NCLEX and if you don't pass you just sign up to take it again. Obviously its better to pass the first time bc then you don't have to worry about studying for it again while studying for your actual classes but I haven't heard thats it's the end of the world if you don't pass. But the sooner you pass the sooner you can start trying to get a job. As far as needing at least a 3.0 goes, I don't think anyone is our class is even near that. I think everyone is probably around or above a 3.5 so that hasn't been a concern for anyone. Everyone wanted to do as good as they could bc it affected our MSN applications (better grades, better chance of getting what you want).

I currently hold a part time job as a CNA at a hospital for 2 - 12 hour shift a week. Do you think it is possible to do both school and work at the same time for the ABSN portion? I know I would have no social life but what are your thoughts? Are any of your cohorts working?

I received an interview invitation, and before that I ended up contacting the admissions coordinator. It ended up being a good thing because there were some transcript issues that needed (and were) worked out!

Did you speak to the program director when you interviewed? That information is incorrect. Our current syllabi all state a C and above is required for passing each class, while a B average 3.0 overall GPA is required.

Unless they are changing it for your cohort.

I know only one cohort member who works 100% full time. I think others either do not work or only do part time. The full timer does not have a whole lot of free time. Any time she does have is spent with her family. I know she sleeps very little and survives on caffeine.

This program in general = no life

The part timers in this program are all excellent students in terms of grades. I chose not to work bc I knew my grades would suffer. Choose to work according to your academic abilities.

Full time job plus this program = no life and no sleep.

I have not received any interview notifications so I am concerned that I am out of the running already. This is my dream program and I would love to go back to SoCal for grad schools. Is anyone else still waiting for an interview invite?

Unfortunately I'm in the same boat

I received an email update earlier this week saying that they are still reviewing applications so I am taking this as good news Also, someone last year wrote that they were invited to interview 3 weeks after the first interview was granted. If interviews started early March or late Feb, we still have a chance!
