CSU or CC for Pre Nursing Program

U.S.A. California

Please help - I want to start a pre-nursing program next year and though that I would save money and apply to a local CSU program and live at home..and then apply to several schools for a Nursing Program - since they are so impacted.... Well all sounded great until I attended a College Fair tonight. Some mentioned that I would have a better chance of getting into Nursing School if I went to a CC and then applied... I am SO CONFUSED.... Please give me some advise... I live CA - East Bay... Please help... I want so badly to be a nurse.....

ok i know EXACTLY how you feel!

i had tried going to a CC actually pasadena city college and found out that i could not start the program until 2010! oh Lord golly!

so i decided to go to APU and i currently attend there. its private and really expensive but the program isnt impacted and you get to do 1/2 the pre-req while your doing classes (but obvisously before the major classes!)

so i mean most CC's in our area (i live in SO CAL too) and they are either doing lotteries with a point system or just randomly picking people depending on grades, GPA, pre-req grades and everything. they are the impacted ones because they are the cheapest and easiest to get into

so i mean if your going to pay the money to go to a CSU then you might as well go to one that has a nursing program in it (make sure its a freshman program, not a bridge program[ RN- BSN ] like CSUF does, because those programs require an current RN license)

so i hope this helps you out and good luck update this forum to see if you found anything!

If you're willing to move, check out Southern Oregon University. From what I can tell you take your pre-reqs AS a nursing student. Good luck!

I took all my pre-req's at a community college, which is WAY cheaper than taking them at a University. Then, when I was done, I applied to about 5 CSU's (I also applied to the CC I went to just in case I ddin't get accpted anywhere) and now I am in my third week of NS. I saved my parents about $40,000, and got the same education I would've had at a University.

Also something to remember is that all nursing programs are impacted, so you may be at a University for 3 or 4 years before you get accepted. Just because you are a declared Nursing major doesn't mean you have a spot secured in the program. I have heard of people about to graduate when they are finally accepted. You basically could be getting another Bachelor's degree in that amount of time.
