CSCC Pre Reqs question to CSCC students

Published

Hi. I am new here and have researched all of the columbus area RN education options and have decided to choose CSCC for my RN degree. I already have a BA from OSU and work full time so, even though it may take a while, at least it's cheap and I don't have to quit my day job as I am well into my late 30s. So my question to any CSCC users, which BIO is better for the BIO 261 prereq requirement? Should I take BIO 100, 101, or 111? Same question for Chemistry, should I take Chem 100, 101, or 111? I am looking for the easiest that still qualifies, without having to take them all and without missing out. Thanks!

I would watch how you approach that. CSCC is going to look at the whole package, not just your grades. They'll definitely look at what prereqs you too, their difficulty, and your grade.

Thanks for your reply! I just want to make sure I take the one that will carry me through to Bio 261, the first Bio in the nursing program. Bio 100 qualifies, is listed as a prereq, but I am worried that it may be too basic. Should I take Bio 111 instead?:typing:redbeathe

I"m not sure if it's still true but CSCC used to have a loooong waitlist for nursing school. Since you already have your BA you could go to Capital or Mount Carmel accelerated and be done in a year (or little longer with Capital). I would definitely keep your options open and apply to as many schools as you can!

If you already have your bachelors, would you do the online program? That's what I'm doing. I got in on the first try.

As for your question, I took Bio 101 at OSU and the second part of the series (I can't honestly remember the number) at CSCC and transferred the credit. I took Chem 100 at OSU and Chem 113 at CSCC b/c it's a nursing pre-req. When I took the first bio and Chem 100, nursing wasn't even on my radar. If it had been, I would have taken more challenging courses but it all worked out in the end. :up: Best of luck. I chose CSCC because it is LOADS cheaper than Capital and Mt Carmel. Sure, I'll walk out with an ADN and not a BSN, but I already have a bachelors and will be able to earn a BSN in the future when I'm making real money. I didn't want to plunge myself into crazy debt. (I just graduated from OSU in winter 07 so it's not like I have built up a solid savings yet) If money isn't an issue, I would definitely look into Otterbein (which I hear is FABULOUS), Mount Carmel, Capital, and OSU. You can actually do prereqs at OSU if you already have a bachelors and then go directly to an MSN degree, bypassing the ADN or BSN. (It was also out of my price range)

:yeah::yeah::bow::heartbeat Thanks so much.

I can't possibly plunge my family into 30k+ debt by attending those other schools. Plus those schools are mostly full time for the BSN program. I need to keep working. I have 2 girls in middle school and nothing beats CSCC flexible class scheduling.

Can you apply to the traditional program and the Online program at the same time to see which one you can get into? The online seems great, but can you continue to work full time? I am curious to know if you work while studying in the online program? Thanks!

I just wanted to note that while I suggested other schools, I took all my pre-reqs at CSCC and had GREAT experiences with all of them! (especially anatomy!) I can completely understand why doing a fulltime program isn't for you. Best of luck with everything!!!

I applied to both online and the traditional. I found out about my online acceptance in February. I think they took me out of the running for the traditional after I accepted the online offer because I never heard a word about it. If you apply to both, they don't mess around when they say apply AT 9am when the window opens. I was #2 to apply but I know others who applied in previous quarters would technically be in front of me.

Some students in the online program currently and new graduates said they worked full time at my orientation but it was REALLY hard. It's recommended to NOT work full time but if you have the right work ethic it IS possible!

I was in the process of completing my pre reqs at cscc. But it takes forever to get into the nursing program even after they are completed.

So i am getting my LPN somewhere else first.. no pre reqs

some of the pre reqs required for cscc require a class to completed first. for ex, chem 113 is a pre req for nursing. but 100 is required for 113. In reality, their 2 year program ends up being closer to 5 including the wait.

Hey there. hate to burst a bubble. But I have been going to CSCC for 3 years now and STILL haven't gotten into the program. The advisors have screwed me up twice already with what needs done in time to appoly. I hope to start in fall of 2009 but am not holding my breath. I literally have ALL classes completed except nursing..... *sigh*. I wish you luck though.
