CSCC Online Program Questions!

Published

Those of you that got in for next fall or are currently in the program, do you mind sharing your Bachelor's Degree GPA, COMPASS and net scores and grades in the four prereq's?

I'm trying to figure out what type of GPA and scores are needed to be admitted and the department won't share any info (which is odd since none of the other schools have had trouble giving me this info... )

I'd really love to do CSCC's online program, but am hesitant to spend the money to take the prereq's if I'm not going to be competitive since three of the four classes aren't needed at any of the other schools I am applying to...

Also, did anyone really have to take Chem 100 as a prereq for the Biochem class even though they took Chemistry more than four years ago?

Thanks!

I know you are asking for those who got into the program, but maybe my info will shed some light in case no one else responds...

I just applied to the Online nursing program, I am a very good student with a 3.31 from OSU and A's and B's in all the prerequisite classes. I even demonstrated that I can succeed at online classwork by getting a B in both Pathophysiology and Microbiology (via CSCC online classes). However I believe that so many people are trying to get into nursing that even this program is very competitive. The one thing I am certain that led to my rejection was my NET test scores, I barely passed them. 65% in Math, 64% in reading. I totally freaked out during the test. For some reason I thought I could use a calculator, oops all my math skills were dependent on that. Oh Well!

I was pretty sure I could have gotten in based on my academic record, but the NET test seems to hold a lot of weight. hope that helps and I hope someone responds who got in as I am curious as well!

Just saw this post; I too was rejected b/c of my NET test scores! UGH! Which is ok, b/c I am in my second quarter of the nursing program at COTC in Newark, they have a competitve entry as well but not as many people applying because they are in Newark. I am making the drive though and many of my cohort mates are from Columbus too! (sometimes we carpool) I was dead set against applying at a school in Newark, but I will be an RN before I can even get into CSCC because they let any geek off the street into their programs!

Good luck to you! :)

I can only tell you about a friends experience with the online program. This person had a degree in business, had a 4.0 GPA, and did pretty well on the NET. He got accepted into the online program and he is working his rear end off! This person actually got his first "B", he actually has to put many hours into studying, reading, posting discussions, papers, labs, clinical, etc. This friend has questioned his decision many times, but it is said the first 3 quarter are so hard that they are trying to weed out people. I don't mean to scare you, but you should go into this knowing it is A LOT of work, and working more than 8 hrs a week only makes it worse. I have talked to another person who made it through the first 3 quarters, and this person said it got better after that.

I will be an RN before I can even get into CSCC because they let any geek off the street into their programs!

Thanks.
