CPNE

Okay I'm just asking a ? waiting to take the FCCA but this is nagging me. At the CPNE are you given task such as start a foley or is it specific simple task or are all aspects of nursing care game. I know they have the labs, critical elements, etc. but is that all you have to practice on, just don't seem like it. Thanks in advance!

Most, not all, nursing tasks are game but they usually stick to the simple stuff to assign to you. This is all explained in the study guide in the critical elements. You can also get a feel for stuff by reading student input to the EPN site CPNE section.

Are we allowed to refer to anything if we are assigned a task we're not familiar with... For example, I believe I saw something about irrigating an NG tube.. I would have no idea how to start with that!

I believe I have read on the EPN site that you can ask to refer to the unit policy and procedure manuals (might be helpful, better than nothing) and you can inquire with the assigned nurse who may give you big hints. This is a good question to pose on the EPN or find where others have asked these questions before and see how they handled it.

As you prepare for the CPNE, you will know exactly the skills you need to know how to perform before you go -- there's a checklist somewhere in the EC materials. I recommend a workshop and a skills book!
