Cover letter

How important is a cover letter?

I'm considering applying for a M/S job and the hospital "strongly prefers" applying electronically via their website. There is a space to paste the resume', and also a spot for a cover letter.

I've never had to do a cover letter before, and have been doing some web surfing on the subject, but it's confusing to me. It seems as if a resume' has the same information as the application, and a cover letter is again, repeating much of the same information.

I gotta find a job. I've put in a couple of apps, but haven't heard anything. One place wanted me to fax the app, and the nurse recruiter said to take it to a local clinic they run and have them fax it to her. A few days later I emailed the recruiter as a followup and to see if she had received the app, but she hasn' t answered. How much can I "bug" her?

HELP!! LOL

I'm right along with ya on this subject! Now that I have freaked out about my resume, I'm freaking out about the cover letter! Hope you get some good feedback on this one! Good Luck!

did you follow up w/human resources in the apps you submitted?

I would say that is more important than a cover letter would be.

heck the places I Have applied did not require or leave room for a cover letter in the online app process.

if you did not follow up to make sure they even received your app, do so now.

that is the most important thing.

good luck.

A cover letter is VERY important. Think of it like a preview or "coming attractions". It's what grabs attention and peaks interest in your resume. No one will call you for an interview if they haven't read your resume.

Go to any search engine (google.com or yahoo or whatever) and enter search words like "resume cover letter medical or nurse" or something similar (example or template cover letter), and see what comes up. There are probably lots of suggestions online. Good luck! --- D
