Could use some advice

I've been an LPN on a medical telemetry unit for about 7 months now (Time flies!) and I do love my job but it's just not a unit I want to work on forever. A smaller sister facility of ours currently has a part time job opening in the ER for an LPN and I'm really tempted to apply and work both jobs with the hope that I could work my way up to full time in the ER, my dilemna is that before this opening came up I was planning on taking my butt back to school this coming semester to start nailing away the general courses so I can bridge for my RN, obviously if I'm working 2 jobs it will be difficult to do that plus I'm not scheduled to take ACLS until Feb. so I might not even have a shot at the ER job anyway. I'm just not sure if I should pass up this shot at getting into the ER and go ahead and start on my classes or if I should apply for the job and go back to school when/if I could eventually get a full time position. Just kind of confused as to what direction I want to go in, any input anybody?

What shift is the ER position for? If it is nights, or evenings and it coincides with your school schedule, then, go for it! ER experience is great, I think, for an up and coming RN. Good luck with your decision. I think I do remember when you first posted when you got your telemetry job.

Check with HR to make sure that you are even able to hold two jobs at the two sister facilities. Every time I've tried to get another job with a different unit of the same entity, I've been told that I could only have one job at a time. So I always ended up going elsewhere for more work. As long as you are still taking prereqs, and everything can be worked around your schedule, there's no reason why you can't try to do a combination of activities. I used to juggle several jobs and school and parenting, etc. and for the most part managed to make things work. You can too, if your health is good, and you plan things just right. Good luck with whatever decision you go with.

Thanks for the input! I still haven't made up my mind, deadline for applications is in early december so I still have a few more days to think it over.
