correspondence courses/pre reqs

I was under the impression that since I earned my GED and have no high school chem or algeb. I needed to take college level algebra for a pre req. Well two of the local nursing schools will accept high school algeb and chem courses from online correspondence schools. )mathcourses.com or ectschool.com)

Does anyone have any experience with these? They are less expensive than a college credited course.

Thanks!

No experience myself, but have read in a number of places that some schools will not accept online science classes. If I were you I would get a course description from the exact online school & class you want to take and get your school to sign that they will accept a passing grade from it before you start. It would be awful to finish and then not get credit for it if, say, the online school was not accredited or something.

Good luck!

I personally, would not recommend taking college-level Chemistry if you have never had it in high school. A local community college should have a high-school equivilent of Chemistry, which is essential. College-level Chemistry assumes that you have had it in high school, and it moves at a much faster pace.

I would also recommend taking the Algebra before taking Chemistry, there is ALOT of advanced algebra in Chemistry.

I am taking a high-school level Chem at my CC right now. I don't think the fact you have a GED makes any difference, but with some classes there just isn't a replacement for not having a full course.

I took mine in college and it was accepted into my new CC. So, in my opinion, you should be taking math first before chemistry, because chemistry also deals with calculation. Knowing how to calculate will help you to succeed in chem. Good luck!
