Is it really worth it to get my CORN? Monetary or otherwise. I am not lazy and am always looking to learn more and more but it is a time factor. would I be better off utilizing my time for other things? does it make me more valuable in general?

Assuming you mean CNOR, whether it's monetarily worthwhile depends on what you're looking for and whether the facility you work for does any kind of recognition (reimburses test fees, offers a differential). I got mine purely for personal growth, and to me, that was worth it. Because it required continuing education to recertify, it's one way to ensure that you read some educational articles or attend presentations. As for being "more valuable" if you were up for a job with someone with the same experience/educational background, the certification can give you an edge.
The Competency and Credentialing Institute is responsible for the CNOR exam and recertification. Their website is: http://www.cc-institute.org

Because nursing is so specialized it is important to become certified in your area of practice. Yes it makes you more marketable and you have nothing to lose. You will learn many things just by studying for the exam. Good luck

I obtained my CNOR for personal satisfaction and growth but also because I found it was highly recognized in every facility I have worked in (I have been a travel nurse as well as a staff nurse). The test was very educational and taught me many things I no longer remembered from my periop 101 course 7 years ago as well as updated me on current practices and guidelines. The hospital I worked for when I got certified reimbursed me for the exam after I passed and I received a $1.50/hr raise for being certified. That was icing on the cake! The continuing education requirements are tedious and specific bur like Sweet_Wild_Rose said, it gets you to pick up articles or attend seminars and I always learn great, new things when I do that! I would personally, highly recommend it!
