i am about to graduate with my rn to bsn degree this weekend though i won't actually finish all the classes until august (yeah me!!!)
i am still looking for that ever elusive rn position. with my associate's i couldn't get an interview once my rna position collapsed and my one attempt at moving for a job didn't work out. amazingly being unemployed had the unexpected benefit of my being home when my mother was diagnosed with colon cancer last year and when she had a stroke this year. i am seriously hoping that now that my mother is better i can finally find that darn job.
with a bsn i can finally apply to the va hospital since the accreditation of my adn program or lack thereof meant my associate's was not recognized by them. the only place i have not applied is ltc and the reason is that i do not want to be a manager of any kind yet and all the positions near me want that plus. this does not mean i'm not serious about finding a job, just that i'm not willing to work someplace i'm more likely to quit in a few weeks. i also cannot "move to where the jobs are", there are plenty of jobs but there is also plenty of nursing schools.
two federal positions i'm curious about and haven't yet applied to is school nurse on one of my state's two army bases and a position as nurse with the forest service. both of these positions, i think, require a great deal of autonomy that i don't know if i'm comfortable with. which is why i've gotten the contact numbers to inquire more about the positions.
i have had several people look over my resume and cover letters including the nurse recruiter at one of the hospitals i keep applying too. she actually looked at it and my application and didn't see anything glaringly wrong with it. she was actually glad i had come in because it put a face to the name so to speak. all she could tell me was to keep trying since they get literally hundreds of applications for the few rn positions they have available to new nurses. i honestly need to make a flowchart of all the places i've applied to, when, and when said application was rejected.
i know getting a bsn is not going to be the magic bullet that gets me an interview. but with everything that's happened over the past year and half, what's wrong with expecting at least one interview.
i don't know if i'm asking for advice or just rambling.......
