Constructing a backup plan if I don't get in...

Nursing Students General Students

I have applied for rolling admissions for Texas State in Round Rock, TX...

They let you know by June 22 if you're in or you're out. I know that they only accept 100 total students for their program so I'm not even sure how spots are left for rolling admissions!

I'm freaking out and scared out of my mind but still trying to keep my hopes up...

I've constructed a back up plan if I cannot get into a university, I would try to get my ADN at a community college (brookhaven) first then get my RN to BSN through online at UTA or something.

another backup is West Coast University.. They just opened one in Dallas and school started this spring for them. My main concern is their accreditation is ACICS, I'm not familiar with that one but I haven't heard many good things about it... What do you guys think? also: the $$$$, apparently it's $130,000 to be in their program from start to finish, but I've already got all my prereqs done so that cuts out one year, so for me it would be roughly $86,000. Anyone have any information on this school? I tried talking to the advisor but she kept pushing me to attend the information sessions and didn't answer my questions straightforwardly.

I want this so bad, I know this is what I am meant to do... I just feel like I'm gonna fall...

There is no way I would pay that much for a program. You're desperate and they're preying on that, and I wouldn't buy into it. They get all the money and you get stuck paying back the loans and practically working for free for god knows how long.

Not to mention the job market for new nurses sucks and I'm not sure going to that school would be an asset in your job search, but you're still liable for your loans.

I'd say just take a deep breath and do some yoga while you wait to see if you got in. If not, maybe an ADN or even an LVN if you have to. I know it seems like the end of the world if you don't start immediately, but time flies. :)

Stephalump: thanks a lot! I think after a few hours, I was thinking it through and I told myself I will only accept getting in to a university... I've looked through the forum and it seems that ADN's in my area aren't having much luck getting hired... I messed up my first 2 years in school, I didn't know what I wanted to do yet, I come from a very strict family and I sort of went nuts when I moved out. The last 2 years I've been playing "catch-up" and I've never worked so hard in my life to make good grades. I have debilitating migraines too and have lost 3 semesters worth of classes because I literally could not leave my closet... hopefully I can get in. I know I am ready for this. Thanks for your comment again.

We have the same problem here...ADNs are having a harder time, mostly due to there being way too many new grads...hospitals can afford to be selective.

If all else fails, you could always apply to an ADN program at the same time as a BSN if you don't get in this time and bridge to BSN right away.

There's no difference between 3 years of school to get a BSN or sitting around for 1 year and then spending 2 years getting it, unless you just really hate school and need to work doing something else while you wait.

Anyway, just a suggestion, but hopefully you get an acceptance letter SOON! Everyone has obstacles to overcome...with your awesome attitude I'm sure you'll succeed! :)

that is way too much money. UT is right next door to you and they have a nationally recognized nursing program. The cheapest route would be to get ADN thru a community college then bridge to BSN at UT. If you are working while getting BSN your employer might even help with tuition. Good luck in your career.

Thank you for your feedback. I'm still waiting on Texas state to respond to me. Earlier in March I already got the "regret to inform you..." letter so now I feel like I am desperate! If I don't get in to the BSN program, I would probably just do the ADN to BSN program. This shouldn't affect me if I decide to get a masters in the future I hope... Again, thanks for your response, it did make me feel a lot better. :loveya:

@classicdame I would LOVE to get accepted into UT, but everyone around here knows getting into UT nursing program is like winning the lottery!!! Weel, for me getting in IS winning the lottery! I just feel a lot of people are going to have a much higher GPA getting in.

I am also looking to apply to the Texas State BSN program. I just recently moved to Texas from California. I am finishing up on the last of my prereqs. I know that it stated on the website that you can apply with some classes still in progress, they just need to be completed by the time of admission. Is that true? Will they still accept you if they arent completed at the time of admission? What was the competitive gpa? I'm looking at applying for the 2013 program - so I still have some time, but I know I need to apply in October 2012. Any information would be GREAT! Thank you and good luck!!

WOW that's a lot of money!

I am a post-bachelor's student(Sociology) and I am in a ADN program. My school here is one of the top rated schools in the area, and it doesn't seem like people are having problems getting jobs here that Im aware of. I plan to go get my BSN online though after graduation(maybe a year or so later).

Good luck in your decision, and hopefully you will get in!

That's way too much money for a nursing program and I'd say stay far away from a school like that. Especially if their accreditation is iffy, they are a for-profit school. Apply to both the ADN and BSN programs. I did that here in Cali, thinking I wouldn't get in but I got my acceptance letter to the BSN program for fall. Stay positive.

The minimum is 2.5 and 3.0 science. You have to make an 80 or higher on the reading portion of your teas v for them to even look at your grades and stuff. I think people were applying at 3.5 gpa and higher. Im more worried about TWU and uta because their students are applying at 3.7+

As for classes you are allowed (I think) 18 hours total left before starting nursing school. You have to get it done prior to the start date.

I spoke with the SON advisor, ******, when I went to go turn in my app, she said they've already filled 100 spots but are accepting rolling admissions for alternate spots only. She told me not to get my hopes up too much.

Good luck to you too.

I think that's what I'll do. What sucks is that I have EVERYTHING done as in pre reqs. The adn program doesn't even need all of those classes. :( I would do the bridge though if I go the adn route.
