Help!!! Still don't understand why acute pain is the priority nursing diagnosis!!!!!!!!!

yup thats correct 4 is the ans ....bec. the pt. is complaining of pain....focus on the pt.

I think the rationale given pretty much sums it up. Like the rationale states, you have no info that suggest a decreased cardiac output. The BP is higher than the norm but its not that crazy as well as the heart rate and respiration. Pain will cause those vitals to all go up vitals causing futher issues. So, pain is the correct answer.
....and remember ...it asked the highest priority so you need to focus on the pt. not on symptoms...

Always assume the WORST, the patient is having radiating pain down the left arm, THINK heart attack.......NCLEX is basic content, it knows that you are a new nurse, and you need to be a safe practitioner..........if you can, get the HURST REVIEW, she really helps you to focus on exactly what NCLEX is looking for.
I hope this helps.......keep is mind, you have to take each question separately.......pain may be the highest priority in this question, but may not be for another.......each question must be approached subjectively.

pain is priority if the patient has sickle cell, post op in some operations and terminally ill cancer patients..

And any time the patient has c/o pain, regardless of cause.... sometimes the cause isn't known initially. :)
