Confused!!

Hello everyone,

This is my first time posting in allnurses and would like some insight on what steps to take to finally start my nursing career. Im a sophomore at Nunez Community College. I was going to apply to their LPN program but da 1190 medical math is pushing me back from applying. I wanted to go for RN but New Orleans hardly have any nursing schools especially ADN programs. Delgado is the only community college offering it and the rest of the Colleges and Universities are BSN programs which are expensive but I would prefer a BSN if that was the only way to become an RN I Took most of my pre-reqs except for my Fine arts and Humanities which I'll be taking in the summer at Delgado. I was looking into Our Lady of Holy Cross and LSU-School of Nursing which are great BSN programs but I heard their hard to get into. My question is should i just stick with Nunez and pass 1190 or should I just continue my pre-reqs for either an ADN or BSN program and become an RN?

I'm a LPN now in Nola. I say finish your pre-reqs in the summer or fall then apply for Spring semester to any RN program you are eligible for in the area. Being a LPN is great experience but go for your ultimate goal of RN.

Thanks!! I had a lot of ppl tell me including some LPN's to just go for RN because you have more opportunities. I'm good in science have always made A's in them. I just hope I can get into a RN program by next year.

Finish your pre-reqs and apply. However, be aware that most hospitals prefer a BSN minimum so even if you go to charity for the ADN you might have to (at minimum) be enrolled in a RN-BSN program in order to get a job depending on what specialty you want. Holy Cross is a bit more expensive than the public schools, they have a 100% NCLEX pass rate though. Delgado and LSU require the HESI extrance exam and OLHCC requires the TEAS so you might want to start reviewing the material for those exams.

Ok thanks!!! I was looking into OLHC program because some of nunez students were transfering there. I jus have one more semester of biologies and chemistry to be done with my pre-reqs.
