computerized charting!

Hi all!

I just started my second round of clincals today. My last clincal was at a great facility in NKY/Cincinnati. I really liked it there...they used paper charting....nothing computerized. My second clinical is in Cincinnati and they do all computerized charting...its soo high tech! I really like it...we have a badge in which we must scan every time we log in and before doing any charting we scan the patients wristband to ensure that it is the correct patient, it also will bring up every lab/history/meds/sp instructions for that pt. Also we have laptops that are on wheels that you take around with you to the patients room....this also cuts down on med errors too...I have never seen anything like this before...does anyone else's facility operate like this? What does everyone think about this? :D

We have computerized ID badges that we use for all time clock entries, but we dont use them for sign in/out of our computer for charting YET.

We use mobile computers for all our charting, and anything from patients room such as I/O's are entered into the computer at the end of each shift.

The hospital I am at now encourages everyone to computer chart in real time..i mean you can retroactivelly chart if you need to though:) Im just amazed by all this technology:)

The hospital I work at has started computerized charting in our ECC.. and are in the process of making a program for the other units.. we already have our medication system computerized where we have to scan the patient and the medicine before giving it... as well as lab work.. I look forward to the day when I no longer have to spend all my time writing assessments and can chart as I go.. not to mention not having to hunt down door charts the doctors have put all over the unit before I can sit down to chart

Since I started my job, that's all we do. It's interesting and will be difficult to change. Although given the chance I will :)
