Compass for Jeff State

If you have passed all Math and English classes, do you just have to take the Compass Reading?

Featured Replies

Yes. They use your score from the compass reading to get into the nursing program. Thats a big part of your points. I use to wonder why myself but now I realize that you do ALOT of reading in nursing. And its not easy reading either. So I believe thats why they use this score.

Thanks so much for responding. I have heard that you are tested on all 3. I just wanted to be sure.

Thanks again!

don't take the test for granted either just assuming you will make a perfect score. I did because the adviser told me I would. I had to take it twice to make a 99. google compass reading test and look at some of the practice test. The reading test are VERY wordy and VERY confusing and VERY easy to just get impatient with---that in my opinion was the biggest problem you have to really slow down and be VERY PATIENT. so go in well fed, hydrated and not tired!

Hey Magnolia! Got your msg, but I guess I don't have an upgraded account so I couldn't reply. Hope you don't mind me posting here. If you're worried about the intensity of material covered in BIO 220 as well as the instructors at Jeff State, I would highly suggest taking Micro at Faulkner. I had A's in A&P at Jeff State, but due to the horror stories told about BIO 220 there, several of us decided to transfer for that class over the summer. Faulkner is a little pricey compared to Jeff State's tuition costs, but well worth it for an easy A. I don't think that they will let me name professors on here, but if you speak with Faulkner's Advisor, Kyle Bain, she will let you know the name of the professor that all Jeff State students flock there after. But, I must warn you that there will be culture shock if you are used to the fast pace and material coverage of A&P classes at Jeff State. Micro this summer has seemed almost elementary in comparison for a few of us that were so used to trick questions and multiple chapter exams. Very easy A, almost too easy, in my opinion. I have a perfect score in the class so far and our final is in two weeks...and I have barely cracked the book. The professor is super sweet, too. Very easy to understand and approachable. Hope that helps you a little! :0)

I called Faulkner already---way too expensive, almost $1000. for ONE class. Yes I REALLY need the A, and could REALLY do without Jeff States disfunction for one semester but the expense is out of the question. Unless I mis-understood. How much was your class?

Yep, Faulkner is almost double the price of Jeff State. But it was worth every extra penny for me to have an extra month to enjoy my children this summer. Instead of heading back to JS at the end of May, the class at Faulkner didn't begin until the end of June (I chose Module II). Not to mention that I have barely had to study for the exams so it has made for a stress-free summer as well. But, if you can't justify spending the extra $$$ and have to take Micro at JS, it IS possible to make an A there. I know several friends who have had high marks in the class, although it required complete dedication and lots of studying! Good luck!

I took micro this past spring at Jeff State, and I will tell you that it was easy. The main teacher is great, and all I had to do was just study before my test. She gives a lot of extra points to earn. I say just take the class there and save money. Good Luck!!
