Commuting to Towson

Published

Hi,

Does anyone know how long it takes to commute from Catonsville to Towson in the morning/afternoon with rush hour? I am going to be at Towson but would like to live in Catonsville since I am more familiar with that area. Thanks!

Also, I thought even if it was going to be a 40minute drive, there would be clinicals around the area, so maybe I can come home after class, take a break, and then go into the hospital if the clinical is close to Catonsville.

Keeping in mind that I detest being late I would allow an hour. There is the traffic and frequent accidents. If you can find a time not during rush hour when it isn't jammed it would normally take about 20 minutes. That side of the beltway from Catonsville to Towson, imvho, is like hell on earth. Towson and also the White Marsh area are pretty nice places to live so you might want to check out some apartments over that way.

Thank you Jules. That was stirring up in the back of my head. I will definitely look into areas close to Towson.

I live in Catonsville and I work at GBMC so I can speak to this from total experience! It ALL depends on what time you hit 695 in the morning. If you hit it before 630 or after 9 am you should be fine..but during that 2 1/2 hour span- UGH. In fact I will take back roads instead of taking 695 in the morning. It's all because 83 backs up. STaying on 695 during rush hour w/ out accidents has taken me usually about 45 mins. It can be longer or it can be shorter..depending on the weather, day of the week, etc ( mondays are a LOT worse than Fridays)

Now in the afternoon I have never had a problem. 20-25 minutes max unless there is an an accident or something else slowing traffic down. I ALWAYS listen to the traffic report before I decide to hop on 695 lol.

Hello there,

Thank you for your reply. It's exactly what I was thinking. Last week when my bf and I checked out apartments in Cockeysville, a normal 10 minute drive to campus, the owner said it usually takes her 30 minutes w/ traffic from Cockeysville to Towson. Also, she said to get to the school EARLY to find parking. When we drove back from Towson to Catonsville, keeping in mind there are about 14 exits between, it took us around 25 min w/o traffic on a Saturday afternoon. I looked at my classes and Mondays, I have classes starting at 8am, so if I lived in Catonsville, I would have to leave around 7am. The other days, classes don't start until 2pm, and I'm not sure where clinical would start and it all depends on my clinical supervisor. To be on the safe side, I would like to live somewhere to close to Towson. However, the only thing I'm worried about is if I have clinicals, for example, i.e. at St. Agnes, then I would have to go back down 695 with traffic. If I lived in Catonsville, it would be like a 10 minute drive.

Hi!

Yes, I'm going to be attending Towson starting this spring semester. I saw that you replied to my other post and thank you for the response. It's definitely not too late, since I will be taking it pretty soon. I'm glad to hear that the science portion isn't on there because I wasn't sure what to expect. I went out and bought a Kaplan book to just prepare a little more since the Hobet book they gave us did not have science information on there but the reading comprehension and math part was pretty comprehensive. I'm doing the 2nd bachelor's program there. It's great to hear from someone going to Towson. My name is Mai btw. :)

I know if you talk to either your advisor or the nursing director, they have copies of the official "NET" study book available for your use for free until the day of the exam. I just used that and had no problems with the test. It is timed, but they give you like 3 hours or something to take it all.

I'm Christine, by the way.
