commute Katy to TMC

Although I don't commute to the med center, i think an hour sound about right. Have you tried the park and ride yet? It's pretty good. You save mileage and paying for parking. That is an alternative. Park-and-Ride to downtown, then hop on the electric train to the med center area. at least i think that what you would do. I moved here from Jersey about 4 years ago. Man i miss the philly cheese steaks...

ohh forgot to add that the park and ride probaly will take just as long as driving year own car.. idk. you get to sit and relax while the bus rides in the HOV.

Just as was Thang said, Park and Ride is a good option. Depending on where you live it may even be a faster and cheaper option to driving. Another good option is carpool/vanpool and there are many of such services in the Katy area. You can call HR and find out more. What I consider the very best option is to use any of the above services until the Methodist Hospital on I-10 and Barker Cypress opens and tranfer there, or get on the waiting list for tranfer.

Been there, done that (for 15 years). If you leave by 5:30 AM, you may make it in less than an hour. But if you also factor in the shuttle from the remote lot to the hospital. That can add on another 20 minutes or so. It's pretty much the same if you are working nights... rush 'hour' goes both ways on the Katy freeway. I found that it was frequently faster to take the Studemont exit and cut through Montrose to the med center if there are any slowdowns in the downtown/Pierce Elevated area.

All in all, that's the main reason I moved further in - to Spring Branch.

Thank You everyone for all your replies! I got up and went for a ride this am. I left at 5:55 and was there at 6:30. I went I10 to 610S to 59N, got off at kirby(thats the way my GPS took me.) Maybe I just got lucky today, but I made sure not to speed either. I will try again next week. Thanks again for all your help!

If you don't mind please can you tell me what Katy is like? I heard it is nice with good schools. I am currently in MD but thinking of relocating when I graduate next year. I am considerng a move to Katy,Sugar Land,Spring,The Woodlands or Pearland. I heard Pearland is the closest to TMC and infact most TMC workers live in Pearland than any other city.

Also,what made you choose Katy and can you tell me how difficult it is getting a job? I know Methodist only employs BSN graduates but I am in an ADN program so that rules me out.

Can you tell me other hospitals I can check and the best time to start applying for jobs?

Hey there. We have only been in Katy for a month, so I don't know all there is to know, but glad to share what I do know. We chose Katy b/c of husbands job. His company has a plant here so he just transferred. We were REALLY impressed with the KISD schools here, much better then where we are from in PA. Katy has everything that we need close at hand. There are all of the chain stores and restaurants that everyone is used to, actualy most of them are closer for us here. There are a few local hospitals located right in Katy, Christus St Catherines and Hermann Memorial. Texas Cildrens and Methodist are being built now. I also saw a sign off the 99 today that said future home of St Lukes Katy.

As far as myself, I am looking at Houston for employment. I have been a nurse in open heart recovery(CVICU) for the last 6 years and dont want to give that up. It seems a little harder to find a job if you want a specific area. There are several med/surg and ER positions locally but I still am holding out for an ICU(although as time goes on I am getting less choosy LOL.) I do have an interview tomorrow at a hospital north of here, in cypress.

The other thing that has really impressed us is the number of parks that are around. IT IS AMAZING! We have a 4 y/o and she LOVES it.

If you want more specific details about anything just ask be glad to help you with whatever I can. So far we are very happy here.

I'm glad you are enjoying your relocation to Katy. I've also been thinking of relocating from Missouri to Houston and to Katy in particular. I have neen a med/surg nurse for 2 yrs now. I know you are still new but I would like help in:

1.How is housing in the Katy area ?

2.What would be the approximate pay for an R.N with 2yrs exp. ?

3.How is the cost of living ?
