COD fall 2011 ADN program

Published

did anyone get onto the alternate list? i was just curious about the reasons i was not provisionally accepted. i have a 3.9 GPA; all of the classes finished except nutrition, micro, and speech (i am in CNA and A&P II right now); and I got a 117 on my PAX-RN (this is low so this might be why?).

I worked really hard to get into the nursing program!!!! I hope I am taken off the alternate list and accepted! i will cry if i am not in the nursing program this fall!

Let's see. You should have received 13 points for the 3.9 GPA.

How many classes did you have completed? If you had all classes except nutrition, micro, and speech (and apparently A&P II), then I would conclude that you did complete chemistry, A&P I, lifespan psychology, math, humanities, and English. So that's 6 classes completed for 6 points.

As for the PAX...what percentile scores did you receive in verbal, math, and science? Just by viewing the rubric, a lower PAX score wouldn't seem to hurt your chances too greatly, since the bulk of the available points seem to come from GPA and gen ed classes.

Do you have a previous degree? (associates, bachelors, or masters/PhD?)

i do not have a degree.

i didn't do well on the PAX (should have studied more). I got a 50 in verbal, 67 in math, and 84 in science

Ok, I think you would get 1 extra point for the PAX for scoring greater than 50 in two sections.

Your total looks to be 20 points per the rubric.

yeah i knew it was a 20. I was just wondering how my score compared to everyone elses. I saw on the other forum that you have a 27 (GOOD JOB!). do you know anyone else who got provisionally accepted to the program and got a lower score than you?

Oh, sorry, I didn't know that you knew. It seems as though many people don't understand that points can be calculated by using the rubric.

One of my good friends was also accepted, but I am unsure of her point total. I think our grades are similar and she completed the max. number of classes. Her point total must have been between 26 or 27, but if I were a betting (wo)man, I'd go with the 27.

I didn't make it either mine was bc my GPA. I messed up a few classes in the past and I'm paying for it now. I'm really upset bc I had met all the other requirements :(

Did u make the alternate list? What was your total points on the rubric?

Nope didn't make the provisional list either. I'm also disappointed bc I tried setting up an appointment with Deb Jeffay since at the advising meeting she seemed like we should go to her with all our questions. But when I emailed her it seemed like I was bothering her so I never ended up getting help from anyone. Which now I'm kicking myself in the butt because I could have possibly have avoided this. There's always next year....

Jess - don't beat yourself up. I didn't make it in last year either but this year I did. I felt the same way after I got that letter too. I would suggest you set up an appt with Jim Ryan in advising. He is the advisor for health majors. He can go over everything with you and tell you how to improve your chances for next year. Hang in there!

Thanks & congrats to you :)

I guess I should be counting my blessings!!! I got a score of 22 points I Believe. I have a 3.3 gpa and a 121 in the pax. I am sorry for those who didn't make it in. If I was you I'd find out why from someone.

It's all speculation based on all the different acceptances and denials/alternates.
