CNA without GED

Published

Hi everybody, so im currently working as a cna at a nursing home. But I really want to be a cna in a hospital. But, I don't have my GED. I dropped out in the middle of my senior yr. (i was just a dumb teen making poor decisions). I'm now 30 years old and plan on getting GED very soon.

I know most if not all places say they require a diploma or GED. But I'm wondering if I apply to a hospital, will they actually ask to see it? My current nursing home didn't ask yo see one. BTW, I'm from Ohio.

Specializes in NICU, Trauma, Oncology.

The only way to find out is to apply. However most hospitals use online application systems that not only ask you to input your education information but also ask pre-employment screening questions that include things such as "Are you at least 18?" "Do you have a high school diploma?" etc. So if you say no (which is truthful for the diploma/GED question) your application may get automatically kicked out of the system.

Yes, they will ask to see it. Hospitals aren't nursing homes and they do more checks.

Don't lie on your application, because that is essentially what you are planning on doing. A GED is not that big of a deal to finish and in fact, it can open up doors for college later on down the road.

I would not lie. That can be something that you can get fired for in the future if they would hire you and find out that you lied on you application. It's not worth it. Get you GED and then apply. It is another incentive for you to complete this process.
