CNA Training

Published

Has anyone been through CNA Training Now (located in Matthews NC)? It's a one day CNA class to prepare you for the exam. Would be interested in your feedback if you have been through the program.

Thanks in advance, Melody

Hi, I took the class. Its great if you are experienced in working in LTC with out a certification. It will show you the "state" way of doing stuff. But if you have no experience in transferring, bathing, feeding, changing bedding, etc. it will be of no use to you. Basically you spend an afternoon being shown skills.(the AM is spent on written exam review) I knew I wasnt prepared for the exam and signed up for a 6 week CNA class after it.

Thank you. Although I do have some medical background it isn't with LTC. Phlebotomy certification, clinicals in a Dr.'s office, sitting for a home health agency (however the duties were light housekeeping, feeding and simply sitting with the patient) & Red Cross volunteer work which was actually done in a LTC facility.

The only actual hands on type of care you mentioned was done with my mother who just passed away in a hospital setting over several weeks time. Me and my sis-in-law actually assisted the CNAs in her transferring, bathing, bedding changes to help with their workload, which although minimal it was hands on experience with the proper use of methods. I just didn't want to take short cuts in training only to have to repeat the full class.

Thanks again, Melody

could you tell us what 6 week cna program you signed up for. I'm looking for something quick, less than 3 months like most of the ones I've seen

Thanks!!

Hi, I dont know where you located, but this is a link for all the approved training programs in NC. http://www.ncdhhs.gov/dhsr/hcpr/pdf/trainingprograms.pdf

I went to Caduceus Nightingale in Forsyth.

@ncnrse2b hi, do you know if the skills part of the class is thorough? i am confident about the written part of the exam but the skills part i have to practice as it was 10-15 years ago since i work as NA in a nursing facility and i have forgotten some skills...Thanks

Hi. I had no previous experience in CNA tasks. so for me the skills part was well not very helpful. You get a demonstration, any questions answered, and some practice time. In a regular CNA class you will do skills over and over according to the state manual and then again in clinicals. The CNA skills exam is hard. Its very specific how things have to be done. I think it takes practice, but thats just me.

Wow, my CNA program in WNC ended up lasting almost 7 months! Anyway, if you've never been a CNA before, I'm not sure how helpful a one day course would be. As someone previously said, the skills portion of the test is kind of hard, because every step must be done correctly.

Hi. I just completed a 5 week CNA course. About half of my class just took the state exam and I believe everyone passed. I am taking my exam 5/16. I took my class at http://nurseaideinstitute.com/ . The teachers are awesome!
