CNA needs acute care experience to get into a hospital.

Published

I got CNA licensed last June and want to work for a hospital. Most hospitals are asking for acute care experience! So, it follows that you need hospital experience to get hired at a hospital but you can't get into the hospital without hospital experience!

What can I do? Will a nursing facility job or an old folks home job get me closer to getting into a hospital?

Please help!

Yes, I am about to take a CNA course in Arlington and I am wondering the same thing. I am hoping if I keep on applying to hospitals maybe I will get lucky. If you find out could you please message me and let me know. Thank you!!

Yes, start with a nursing home for 6 months- year then apply to a hospital. You can't immediately go into a hospital unless you're extremly lucky, speaking from experience, and other friend's experiences

Any experience as a CNA will make you more marketable to a hospital. You're right that most hospitals require experience and the preference is that you have acute care experience. If you can't get in at a hospital, try to start out as a nursing home or other facility. Then, after a year or so, try again at the hospitals.
