I know that in some places that if you are in an RN program, that you can finish up your first semester of basic nursing classes and then take the certification test for nursing assistants. Does anyone know if you can do this in tennessee? And if so, how do you go about doing it?

I had an interview at Blount Memorial (Maryville) for a CNA training position. It didn't work with my schedule but she told me to call her as soon as I START clinicals (RN) and she would try to get me a job as a patient care tech. Or she told me to call her when I get my CNA and she'd see if she has a position for me.
I would call your local hospitals and see what they require for PCTs.

Hi,
I finished my second semester of nursing and decided to take the cna exam. I had to call the TN Dept. of Health/CNA Certification Department. The woman I spoke with advised me to fill out a challenge application and send my transcript with it. She reviewed my transcript and sent me a letter telling me when I can challenge the CNA test. The cost is $88.00 and I will take it next month.
Hope this helps.
