CNA classes!

I put this post in the Tennessee Nurses forum and they were of no help,lol. I live in Memphis TN. And I was wondering if anyone knew of any free CNA courses; affordable schools, or nursing Homes. I'm a pre-nursing student as of now trying to get my RN degree at a ADN's program. So I don't want to go into my financial aid grants for a CNA course. Well don't want too, heck I can't at two insitutions at one time,lol. The only CNA program I found close to my area(Downtown Memphis) was the cost of 1,700 for 4wks of training. I would love to go to a free one if that is available.=) I called RedCross and they no longer offer one in Memphis,TN. And do you guys know they only have 1 LPN school here in Memphis. I can't believe that it's terrible. Anyhow, thanks everyone for reading my post.

the only way I've heard of to get it done for free is to get it done in high school. But it cost me about $350 to do it at my university.

i could not find a specific listing of the tennessee approved cna training courses offered in your state. i did find the telephone numbers that you can call to try to get this information, however:

http://nursingassistantcentral.homestead.com/nurseaideregistries.html also lists the name, address and contact phone numbers of the agency that administrates the cna program for your state. i see both telephone numbers listed there. i suggest you spare a dime and call them. ask if you can get a list of the providers who are approved to offer cna training. they probably do not have it broken down by city, but have one big listing for all providers within the entire state. you'll just have to go through the list, find the ones in the area where you live and then call them individually to get financial details of their programs. good luck!

i'm not familiar with the geography of the cities of tennessee, but here is a link to the official state board approved list of lpn schools for you to double check that there is only one lpn school in your area. this list will show you where other lpn schools in your state are located.

There are nursing homes that will train you for free as long as you will commit to working for them. The majority of CNA training providers in Tennessee are nursing homes and community colleges. For a complete list of state-approved programs check out http://www.cnatips.com/classes/nurse-aide-tn.php. You must call and inquire about the training, schedules, etc. Good luck!
