CMSRN

Hey everyone! Hope you all are having a good start to your weekend.

I have almost met my 2 years on med/surg. I have been a nurse for 8 years now! I plan to sit for my CMSRN. I was hoping some of you could give me some insight, what to expect for the exam?

Thanks,

Kelly

I got mine about 2 years ago. I also had been a nurse (all med surg) about 8 years. I took a 2 day review class (not sure if it's mandatory) and felt that it was really a good refresher on a lot of things I maybe don't do often having been out of school awhile.

However I didn't feel the test had much to do with the class to be honest. They don't quiz you on anatomy or labs- it's all application and critical thinking. I don't mean to scare you but it reminded me of boards. í ½í¸¨

However there are now at 10 nurses I work with, with varying levels of experience, all of whom passed on the first try. With your on the job experience you likely will too.

Because we had so many nurses interested my director was able to get us a grant to pay for the testing. I don't know the details but something to look into!

Good luck!

Thanks! My employer doesn't offer to pay for the test but they do offer to pay for the refresher course. It's & hours long for 2 days. I'm not sure I can handle a course that long. I have a short attention span í ½í¸¬

Well that's a lot of free CEUs!

I know what you mean though. It's like torture for me to sit around all day lol. I don't know how I ever made it through school.

I actually had a few questions on erectile dysfunction medication and insulin drips. Neither of which we deal with at our hospital. Got lucky and passed the first time anyways though. Our hospital will pay for it and give you a bonus if you take it and pass.

Does anyone know if the Core Curriculum for Medical Surgical Nursing a good study resource?

I scheduled my test for August 3rd but thinking about pushing it out two weeks. I did horrible on a practice exam of 75 questions. I got around a 57%. Anyone have any advice? I have horrible test anxiety. I made the mistake of telling a lot of my colleagues and now I seriously can't fail, which puts me in even more of a panic. Any advice on this would be so helpful.

OK, so push the test date back, then do not tell anyone you will be taking the exam. I do not have test anxiety, but I do not like to broadcast plans to sit for an exam either. Good luck!

I did it. I studied my butt off, took the test on Friday and PASSED!!

So excited to be a part of the CMSRN world. Such an exciting step in my career. Now I sit and try to patiently wait to find out if I have been chosen for the Evidenced Based Practice Fellowship. Keep your fingers crossed!!!
