Clinical issues

Hello All,

I am doing my clinicals now, but I wanted to ask you all for some opinion on certain things, if our clinical instructor assign a patient to us with and the nurse doesn't want us to go near the patient because she feels like she's responsible for everything and she can do everything by herself, do we still venture on to get the assessment and vitals that we need for our careplan done? I'm not sure how to aproach this. please advise

Tell your clinical instructor that the primary nurse has refused a student assignment to her patient and ask for a different assignment.

Some of my classmates have gotten really angry over the fact some nurses say they don't want a student. Like crazy angry...but I see it this way: not everyone is a good teacher. Maybe she/he's having a bad day. Maybe s/he knows a particular patient is touch and go/alittle crazy/aggessive/difficult...and they just are trying to minimize the drama for the day. I can't blame them. I just usually say "ok. No problem. I'll ask another nurse, is there someone you would recommend?" Nine times out of 10 they are happy to point you to someone who loves having students, is a great teacher and will give you great insight.
