Clinical commute

What's the longest clinical commute you've ever had?

I live in Houston and there are a lot of options here but I'm also considering my own options in case I cannot find a preceptor. I have a good rapport with some of the ER physicians and MLPs at a hospital I worked at before moving to this area but it's also 4 hours away. Is that unreasonable?

I don't start clinical for at least another year but I'm just trying to think ahead!

To me its not unreasonable. You could get a name your price hotel and do 2 clinics days per week, staying over night there. I live in Wichita falls and drive to Arlington which is 2 to 2.5 hours just for class.

During my clinicals, I came across students who had done rotations that were more than 4 hours from their home. They looked at weekly rentals and would stay there during the week and go home on the weekends. Between study time, classes, and clinicals...4 hours on the road one way eats into a lot of your time. Just a suggestion.

In the Houston area there should be no need to drive that far for clinicals. What area of town are you in and what school are you attending? PM me if you want and I may be able to assist.
